We asked a group of former brides and some of the industry’s leading make up artists for their top tips for bridal make up. Some of them might surprise you.
Read on to discover the insider tricks and bridal make up tips every bride should know…
‘Get your skin glowing, preparation is key. When the photographers start taking photos of you on your big day, your skin needs to be luminous, glowing and healthy looking, so it is imperative to get your skin glowing for the blog day. Its not about the make up, preparation is key. Make sure you drink plenty of water to hydrate your skin and exfoliate at least twice a week. That’s the ultimate to when it comes to wedding make up and tricks.’
Julia Carta, International celebrity hair and make up artist
‘Eat clean and look after your skin. Eat as healthy as possible in the run up to the wedding so that the skin looks in top condition. Lots of water with lemon juice, green smoothies, avocado and oily fish will do wonders to their skin. I always recommend to my brides to take better care of their skin so that on the day we have perfect canvas for makeup application rather than have to use heavier products in order to cover up imperfections.’
Kristina Gasperas, award winning make up artist
‘Foundation is the key. The most important makeup product to invest in for your wedding day (and you do get what you pay for) is your foundation. Get this wrong, and it will show in your photographs – but, if you get this right, everything else you apply after will look so much better. Don’t choose a foundation which is darker than your natural skin tone, choose a foundation which is a perfect match and if you want to have more colour on your face, apply bronzer after to achieve this. So, visit a cosmetic counter and get not only the perfect shade of foundation – get the perfect formulation too. If you have an oily skin tone, choose a more matte foundation and if you have a more mature or dry skin type, opt for more dewy/ moisturising foundation for complexion perfection on your wedding day!’
Award winning make up artist Sarah Brock
‘Go for false lashes. I was extremely worried about panda eyes or crying on the day and my makeup running or not lasting so I invested in individually applied lashes.I went to a technician who was recommended by a friend and had two trials before hand (timed perfectly for my hen do and another wedding.) They took away any worries I had on the day and they lasted for my honeymoon too’
‘Don’t go too crazy with make up – you want to look like the best version of yourself. Always take pictures at the trial – what you see in the mirror and what you look like in a photograph can vary widely’
‘Highlight, highlight, highlight! – My ultimate make up tips for your wedding day? Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick. It was my saviour. It accentuated my cheekbones and gave me definition under my chin.’
Heavy make up will work. My make up artist said she’d need to do my makeup heavier than normal so it showed up well in photos, so my tip would be not to don’t panic if you start by feeling a little like a pageant queen with big hair and heavier eyes and lips because your hair will drop a little and your photos will look amazing.’
Cold water!– Dip your face in cold water the morning of the wedding – as cold as you can bear. It freshens up your face immediately!’
