A Stunning Summer English Country Garden Wedding In Somerset

How pretty is Sarah and Will’s summer English county garden wedding in Somerset? I think it is absolutely delightful and can most definitely relate to Sarah as her favourite flowers are peonies. They are my favourite flowers too!
I also adore the look of the couple’s wedding venue, Coombe Lodge in Blagdon Somerset, the ideal setting for a summer English country garden wedding.
Will proposed to Sarah three years after they had first met. ‘I had been suffering from terrible sinusitis, so looked awful,’ explains Sarah. ‘We had arranged to take our whippet puppy Molly for a walk near our home. I just wanted to curl up in bed. However, Will was determined we were going for the dog walk!’
Whilst they were out, Will got down on one knee and asked Sarah to marry him. Will had secretly hacked into Sarah’s Pinterest board of dream wedding rings, and produced a ring that he had designed himself. Sarah immediately said yes, and celebrated with fish and chips and a mini bottle of Champagne.
Sarah’s ‘Cherish’ Suzanne Neville wedding dress is from Carina Baverstock Couture in Bradford Upon Avon. ‘I love the detail and material of my dress,’ says Sarah. ‘Whilst the ladies in the boutique were helping me into the dress to try on, I started to cry. This was because I knew this was the dress I would get married in. My mum cried, and the assistant at the boutique cried. It was so emotional! They custom made my veil which was floor length and had cascading Swarovski crystals all the way to the bottom which was simply beautiful.’
The couple’s summer English country wedding has a very relaxed yet stylish feel at the same time. Although they did not have a wedding planner, they were helped by Kirsten from The Little Wedding Helper, based in Bristol. ‘She was literally a god send and helped pull everything together for the day,’ says Sarah. ‘Her ideas and unique touches to the venue are really what made the day. We simply could not have done it without her. Her attention to detail is out of this world. She transformed the venue to feel so personal, she is simply amazing!’
Rachel from The Rose Shed was the couple’s florist. Although Sarah knew she wanted peonies, she didn’t have any idea of flowers that would be in season or that would work together. ‘All of the flowers were so perfect and they had such a natural country garden feel that I wanted,’ says Sarah. ‘Every guest (even the men!) commented on the flowers and how beautiful they were. They really were out of this world and perfect!’
Will, his best man and groomsmen suits are from Jack Bunney’s in London. ‘He wanted to wear something with a nod to my Scottish roots, but he did not want to wear full on tartan,’ says Sarah.
Sarah’s two bridesmaids were her cousin and Will’s sister. Her best friend was due to be her third bridesmaid, but gave birth to her little girl Cara the week before the wedding, so could not make it. Her bridesmaids wore ‘Clementine’ by twobirds.
Little vintage style touches at the couple’s wedding included a vintage dresser which Sarah had bought years ago. They dressed it with her great grandmother’s linens and on top of it place photographs from both sides of their families. ‘We went through weeks of searching for wedding favour ideas and decided that an edible gift was the best,’ explains Sarah. The couple opted for their favourite Charbonnel et Walker truffles which came in a heart shaped box. ‘We also had bike shaped bottle openers at the bar for the men to take away as Will is massively into cycling and we thought this was a nice little touch for people to take away,’ says Sarah.
Their wedding cake was made by Cakes by Samantha, based in Somerset. Their layers included coconut and lime, raspberry jam and white chocolate, passion fruit curd, chocolate and salted caramel and finally carrot cake. ‘It was simply amazing and there was not a single crumb left at the end of the evening,’ says Sarah.
It was very important to Sarah that they had bagpipes at their wedding. ‘I really love listening to them and they always bring a tear to my eye,’ says Sarah.’ I am so glad we booked Bob The Bag Piper as he was so professional. He certainly looked the part and his playing was fantastic.’
Will was responsible for booking their wedding photographer Albert Palmer and Sarah was delighted with his choice. ‘Albert was amazing and we feel so lucky to have simply the most stunning and beautiful wedding photographs we could ever have dreamed of, explains Sarah. ‘He was so unobtrusive and we kept forgetting he was even there. So many of the photographs he has taken have given us so many special memories that Will and I will cherish forever.’
I am sure you are going to love looking at Sarah and Will’s summer English country garden wedding.
