Show-stopping wedding style in New York

Katie and Mark married at Pier 1 Brooklyn Bridge, New York. “We wanted 1920s glamour with a modern twist – Essex meets New York!” says Katie. “We only had our nearest and dearest in attendance so it was kind of an elopement wedding.” Wowing in a Constantina & Louise gown, Katie had spent months sourcing her perfect dress. “I had an idea in my mind but I couldn’t find anything close,” she says. “I was getting married in NYC: it had to be unique, one-of-a-kind and made for me. I wanted Hollywood glamour, sexy but not too sexy, with a 1920s twist. Eventually, I found a designer on Instagram based in Australia and instantly fell in love: her dresses are divine. As soon as I saw the Elia silk gown, I just knew it would work as my wedding dress.” And Katie’s finished gown fitted her like a glove. “It suited my body type and my accessories added the perfect finishing touches,” she says, accessorising with Manolo Blahnik shoes “the ones Carrie Bradshaw wore in Sex in the City!”, a Swarovski diamond and white feathered hair piece to which her bandeau veil was attached, and a Swarovski crystal rose-design hair comb for keeping her 1920s hairstyle to the side. Mark wore a tailor-made dark green suit by Paul Smith and brown custom loafers by Duke & Dexter. With help from Ultimate USA Weddings, who worked with the couple to bring all their ideas to life, the day ran perfectly. The highlight for Katie and Mark was, of course, becoming man and wife. “But,” says Katie, “the amount of attention we received was unreal. We got married at 6pm on Pier 1 Brooklyn Bridge, so we had the whole day to run around NYC on our own little wedding day photoshoot. We had photos on the High Line, and all around the Bridge itself. There was such a buzz around us on the High Line we felt like celebrities: a passer-by even said ‘is this a photo shoot for a magazine?’.”
With thanks to Kamila Harris for her beautiful photography.
