‘The look of my dress was intentionally very 1970s in style,’ says Kerry. ‘I’m always in flares and platforms, so it made sense for me to feel comfortable in what I was wearing for the biggest fashion statement of my life.’ For her city chic wedding in Manchester to Nicholas, Kerry knew that she wanted her wedding dress from a boutique called Glory Days Bridal in York. As well as sourcing retro gowns, the company also makes bespoke dresses too. ‘I loved all of Hayley’s pieces,’ explains Kerry. ‘She understood what I was looking for based on my likes and influences. She designed and made me the most stunning dress. A year on, and it’s still the most beautiful garment I have ever seen!’
Real Wedding Inspiration – Kerry and Nicholas
Kerry and Nicholas’s city chic wedding took place on Friday 13th November 2015 at Manchester Town Hall. The couple met at a soul night in the centre of Manchester. ‘My husband wooed me with his moves, he’s an amazing Northern soul dancer and he knows it,’ says Kerry.
The couple met and married within five months. ‘You just know, when you know,’ says Kerry.’ Don’t you just love this?
Kerry decided not to enlist the help of a wedding planner, and instead revelled in the excitement of planning her own wedding. Their wedding florist was Northern Flower, based in Manchester’s Northern Quarter. Kerry chose a stunning bouquet of Gypsophila, and got her hairdresser (Leon from Vox salon) to hand sew the flowers into her hair. ‘It took him ages, and it looked perfect,’ says Kerry. ‘He even kept me calm with Espresso Martinis!’ For her makeup, Kerry went for a brushed copper, blown out smoky eye, with nudes and peaches on her lips and cheeks.
To fit in with the 1970s style of Kerry’s wedding dresses, her bridesmaids wore pastel blue full length dresses with a 1970s vibe.
According to Kerry, the highlight of her day was seeing the look on Nicholas’s face when he first saw her in her wedding dress. ‘he looked at me like he’d just seen me for the very first time. It’s a memory that will never escape me.’
