A Beautiful Rustic Chic Wedding In Bordeaux You’ll Adore
7th July 2017

You are going to love looking at Gill and Michael’s big day as I know there are so many couples out there who are planning a beautiful rustic chic wedding themselves.
The couple got married on the 13th May 2017 at Chateau Rigaud in Bordeaux, France. The couple first met when Gill was 17 and Mike was 18 at their maid of honour’s house in Cork, Ireland. Gill and Michael dated for 10 years before Mike proposed at Monart, a 5 star spa resort in Ireland.
When it came to her wedding dress for their beautiful rustic chic wedding, Gill found it at a boutique in Cork, Ireland called Rice n Roses. ‘It is by Sincerity Bridal and was the third dress I tried on,’ says Gill. The necklace and earrings were a gift from Gill’s mum. Her tennis bracelet was from Carat London.
Hayley Pollard who is part of the Chateau Rigaud team, helped organise their big day. Their florist was Heidi from Flowers in the Vines. ‘The flower theme was coral charm with a lot of foliage and roses,’ says Gill. Gill’s mother Laura is a florist and worked with Heidi to achieve the incredible results.
The couple’s afternoon reception began on the Chateau terrace with canapés prepared by the chefs there. This was followed by dinner in the Rigaud barn. Gill, Michael and their guests feasted on local asparagus with poached egg and bayonne ham, parsley and hazelnut pesto, followed by Confit leg of duck, celeriac purée, fricassé of pancetta, wild mushrooms, chard, beans and a red wine jus and then tarte au citron (lemon tart) with a vanilla creme Normande for dessert. The wedding favours were small boxes of chocolates on the tables, which were named after houses of Champagne.
Gill and Michael had a fabulous croquembouche for their wedding cake, simply perfect for their beautiful rustic chic wedding.
According to the couple there were so many highlights. ‘The food, the laughs, the dancing and the atmosphere was just electric,’ says Gill. However, there were two moments that definitely stood out for Gill. The first was when they walked into the barn to “Don’t Stop Me Now,” by Queen. ‘Everyone danced whilst Mike popped the first bottle of Champagne,’ says Gill. The second moment that stood out for Gill was the sunset at the church on the top of the hill nearby whilst their photographer Brett Harkness took the most incredible photographs. ‘It was a beautiful quiet moment for us to enjoy after dinner on such an excitement filled day,’ says Gill.
Gill and Michael are thrilled with the photographs taken by Brett Harkness of their beautiful rustic wedding. ‘Brett was fantastic, really fun, a complete professional and captured all the moments you would want, but also so many more,’ says Gill. ‘The final photographs are just incredible and we will cherish them for all of our lives.’
If Gill could give one piece of advice to future brides, it would be to take a few minutes alone with your husband after the ceremony to let it all sink in. ‘Mike and I snuck off to a room (the kids playroom!) in the chateau with a bottle of Champagne, says Gill. ‘We just sat on the tiny chairs chatting about how surreal the whole day was so far.’
