A Cool & Ultra Fashionable London Wedding With Such Style

I literally can’t get enough of Karen and Dan’s cool and ultra fashionable London wedding. Karen is just one of those brides who has an innate sense of style and knows exactly how to pull off a glamorous and fashionable wedding look.
The couple got married on the 20th June 2015 at Burgh House in Hampstead followed by a reception at The Russet, Hackney Downs in east London. After the reception at 3am, they took everyone back to theirs and had a house party until 9am!
Karen and Dan first met at a Sheffield club whilst they were at university 13 years ago. When they got engaged, they celebrated by eating steak and drinking potent ginger beer at the restaurant Hawksmoor. ‘Dan knows me well enough to know I’d hate a big proposal, same goes for the wedding, so we organised the whole thing in just a few months and kept it a secret,’ explains Karen.
In terms of styling when it came to their wedding, Karen was keen to make everything personal and channel some of their favourite places; Ibiza, Thailand and India into the feel/theme of the day. ‘The colour scheme was chaotic but included black, gold, bright neons and peacock feathers,’ says Karen. ‘We wanted the meal to be informal with everyone sharing big dishes. As we had mixed everyone up it seemed like a good way to get people talking, so we opted for large, long tables. We covered the place in embroidered Indian cushions, Moroccan brass lanterns, sheep skin and Persian rugs, 70’s crochet blankets, tropical plants and palm leaves. I made wall hangings using antique lace decorated with stones, trinkets, tassels and chandelier crystals from our travels and Chloe our photographer, created black and white photo montages of our Ibiza visits with friends over the years. My friend Sarah designed the menus and signs, working from a paper cut design.’
As Karen is a project manager by trade, she treated her wedding like every other project. When it came to her wedding dress, Karen took inspiration from Olivia Palermo’s fabulously chic wedding outfit. Catherina at My Eden and I dreamt up a a full skirt of layers of silk tulle, embroidered with peacock feathers with gold sequin eyes and a massive split to show off my electric blue YSL Tributes,’ she says.’I didn’t go to any wedding boutiques; I simply didn’t have the budget for a designer dress combined with the fact I hate shopping!’
For the body top (with open back) Karen worked with Wendy Benstead Costume and Clothing. ‘Wendy made my beautiful body to wear under the skirt, with a 1950’s swimsuit cut and open back,’ Karen says. ‘She also made me some AMAZING gold sequin hotpants for the dance floor! I knew I wouldn’t be able to dance in the skirt, and if you can’t wear gold hot pants at your wedding, when can you wear them?’
