A Beautiful & Classic Wedding In Austria

There is just something so fresh and pretty about Sarah and Phillip’s classic wedding in Austria.
Sarah and Phillip first met at Oxford University and dated for 10 years before getting engaged. After university, they moved to Paris where they worked for several years. ‘We got engaged just before I moved back to the UK for a new job in 2014,’ says Sarah. ‘ Phillip joined me just over a year later’
According to Sarah, Phillip’s proposal was very romantic. He surprised her with a trip to New York in January 2014, it was Sarah’s first time visiting the city. ‘After a day of sight seeing, we went for a stroll in the park,’ Sarah explains. ‘He got down on one knee and took a ring out of his pocket. It was an amazing engagement and we have very happy memories of the trip. He had planned everything, booked the flights and hotel, found the ring and I had no idea. It was perfect!’
The couple got married on the 29th August 2015 in Salzburg, Austria, where Philip is from. ‘We got married in a beautiful church Aigen in the countryside, just outside the city and celebrated at the Schloss Leopoldskron, a castle (featured in the Sound of Music) next to a lake and gardens with a backdrop of mountains,’ says Sarah. They had their civil ceremony the previous day on the 28th August 2015 in the Mirabell Palace, the Town hall in the centre of Salzburg.
When it came to her wedding dress, Sarah had a general idea of the kind of dress she wanted, but couldn’t find anything. She eventually found what she was looking for at a wedding fair in London when she met the designer Sarah Bussey from Ivory & Co. ‘Sarah let me know that I could create a bespoke dress, which was the perfect option as I could design exactly what I wanted and have a unique dress,’ explains Sarah.’I visited her studio near Worcester a couple of times to design the dress and have my fittings – it was a silk chiffon full length skirt with a small train, a sweetheart bodice with French lace overlay up to the neckline.’
Sarah and Phillip did not have a wedding planner and did everything themselves. ‘Looking back, we are amazed how we managed it all during a year when we both moved to London, and started new jobs,’ says Sarah. ‘We also had a lot of fantastic support from all our family and friends who helped us to find local suppliers and finalise details for the day like wrapping the wedding favours.’
Sarah and Phillip’s beautiful and classic wedding was photographed by Marie & Michael Photography. ‘One of our best decisions was choosing our wedding photographers,’ explains Sarah. ‘They were there for the two days, from the beginning to the end. They were wonderful and we enjoyed having them there so much.’
