Style & the Bride Logo

Welcome to the UK's most stylish wedding blog

I am so excited to share my passion for the world of bridal with you, my fashionable bride-to-be’s. I am dedicated to sharing with you the latest wedding fashion trends, the most beautiful real weddings, inspirational receptions, gorgeous hair and beauty ideas, dream honeymoons and much, much more.

To give you a bit of background on myself, I got my first taste of weddings at the tender age of 23 when I was lucky enough to attend the A-list celebrity wedding of Victoria and David Beckham. I didn’t realise it at the time but the Beckham wedding ignited my passion for the wedding industry.

After editing Cosmopolitan Bride magazine, and freelancing for national bridal and non-bridal magazines, I decided to launch Style & the Bride.

I know that you are about to embark on one of the most exciting times of your life. My aim is to help you achieve the most incredible wedding day, your style, your way.

A Beautifully Traditional Wedding In The Heart Of London

If you are planning a classic wedding, I am in no doubt you will be inspired by Sophie and Nick’s beautifully traditional wedding in the heart of London. The couple first met in Cornwall in 2007 when Sophie was on a holiday with her girlfriends. Nick was on holiday with friends too Their two groups met in a pub and got together the next day to play cricket on the beach. Nick and Sophie ended up spending the week together.

The couple were together for eight years before Nick proposed on a driving holiday through the north of Italy. ‘We spent the day at Lake Orta and were driving around the lake before heading back to our accommodation,’ says Sophie. ‘I had fallen asleep in the car and Nick woke me up, made me put on my shoes and walk back up the hill to the top of Sacro Monte to ‘watch the sunset’ Sophie nearly didn’t get out the car as she was sleepy and had already been up there. Luckily for her, she did. A few minutes after the sun set, Nick asked Sophie to marry him.

When it came to planning their day, Sophie knew that she wanted a traditional wedding. As Sophie is Catholic, she wanted to get married in church. Their ceremony took place at St Patrick’s Catholic Church, followed by a reception at Dartmouth House in Mayfair.

Sophie found her ‘Omette’ by Ronald Joyce wedding dress from Sofi Designs Bridal in Basingstoke. It was simply the perfect classic shape for their beautifully traditional wedding.

As the couple’s wedding took place in London, they used a classic red bus to transport their guests. ‘The majority of our guests don’t live in the city, so we wanted them to have an ‘authentic’ view of London from a classic red double decker,’ says Sophie. ‘I hear they went the ‘scenic route’ back to Dartmouth House so even got a mini sightseeing tour thrown in!’

Sophie was in no need of hiring a wedding planner as she has a diploma in event planner. Her mum was also incredibly helpful when it came to arranging Sophie and Nick’s big day.

The couple’s wedding flowers were by Mary Jane Vaughan Designs. ‘All the flowers were simply stunning,’ says Sophie. ‘My brief for the flowers was white, ivory and an abundance of eucalyptus, because I adore the scent.’

Sophie and Nick married on the 20th August, which was of special significance as it was her parents 39th wedding anniversary. Sophie’s brother (a Catholic priest) also married them in the church that he was ordained in. According to Sophie, the day consisted of many highlights. ‘One of my highlights was walking down the aisle on the arm of my dad, with my brother leading the way, to marry my best friend. I couldn’t stop grinning! And definitely walking back down the aisle as husband and wife, such a great feeling.’

I am in no doubt all you classic brides out there will be inspired by Sophie and Nick’s elegant traditional wedding in London. Their wedding photographer was Kerry Morgan.
